A few facts about our rival Avangard Kursk

The football history of the Kursk team dates back over 65 years. The foundation date of the club is considered to be 1958. In 1958-1965, the club was called Labor Reserves, but in 1966 the team was renamed Trud. In 1967, the name “Labor Reserves” was returned to the team, but in 1973 the team again had a new name - “Avangard", under which the football club from Kursk exists to this day.

The best result of a team with such a rich history is considered to be participation in the final match of the Russian Cup of the 2017-2018 season, which was relatively recent. Then the team played in the first league of the Russian championship, and in the final match lost to Leningrad Tosno with the score 1:2, conceding just 10 minutes before the end of the meeting.

For many seasons, the Kursk team has performed quite well in Russia's second-strongest division, the National Football League, but in January 2019, information appeared in the media that the team might cease to exist due to multimillion-dollar debts. At that time, the team was in 3rd place and was fighting for entry into the RPL, but the difficult financial situation only helped the team to finish that season, without setting goals for promotion. Since 2020, the Kuryans have been playing in the Second League.

Last season turned out to be quite good for Avangard in the Second League of Division A - Silver Group: the team took the fourth place, losing the bronze to Kaluga only in additional indicators, and only 1 point was missing from silver, which was won by Tekstilshchik from Ivanovo.
